Admission & Eligibility

In order to gain admission to the MSc in Environmental Science program of CDES, a candidate must appear in and pass the entrance examination conducted by the Institute of Science and Technology, Tribhuvan University (IOST-TU), and the admission is strictly merit-based. An applicant must have completed BSc in Environmental Science or an equivalent degree recognized by Tribhuvan University with at least a second-division aggregate percentage. The application of candidates having degrees other than BSc in Environmental Science can be accepted based on the decision of the Faculty Board of IOST-TU.

Scholarship

CDES is seeking support from the government, private and corporate sectors, family endowments, private industries, and other institutions to sponsor outstanding students towards their tuition and other essential fees. Currently, the department is awarding 50% tuition fee waivers to the top two students of each semester based on the merit of the previous semester examination or entrance examination. The department also awards dissertation grants on a competitive basis.

Training

CDES conducts the following training programs for students in different semesters:

1. C Programming (II Semester)

2. Proposal writing (III Semester)

3. Remote Sensing and Geographic Information System (IV Semester)

4. Research Methodology and Statistical Packages (SPSS/ R) (IV Semester)

Apart from these programs, the department also runs special training packages on technical/ scientific writing, EIA, bioengineering, etc. 

Evaluation

Students must pass all theory and practical papers separately in order to be awarded the MSc degree. The pass marks on all papers are 50% of the full marks. The department conducts an internal assessment each semester which carries a weightage of 40% of the total marks. It is mandatory to pass the internal assessment to be eligible to take the End Semester Examinations. The End Semester Examination is conducted by IOST-TU which carries a weightage of 60% of the total marks.
